THIS WEEK'S JOB // Resize and crop images so your pages load fast and look sharp. (Book pages 111-117 in Mrs. Gaiser's book.)
THE THREE IDEAS
Big files, slow shops
A phone photo can be huge. Visitors on slow connections give up on slow pages, so we shrink images to the size we actually display.
Resize vs crop
Resizing changes how big the whole picture is. Cropping cuts away the parts that do not matter. Most photos need both.
Keep the original
Edit a copy, never the only original. When (not if) an edit goes wrong, you want the untouched photo still in the drawer.
ON YOUR LOT
Follow the book's editor walkthrough: resize one photo for your site, crop another, and put both on a page with correct paths and alt text.
